Edward Keating Papers 1900-1964

Edward Keating, journalist and politician (1875-1965), began his career working on the Denver Republican staff, entered politics and met Thomas Patterson. Keating served in the US House of Representatives from 1913 to 1919. In 1919, Keating became the editor and manager of the weekly newspaper, Labor, continuing his newspaper career until he retired in 1953. The collection contains correspondence, diaries, book manuscripts, speeches, scrapbooks, newspapers and photographs from 1913 to 1953. Also included are the papers of his wife, Margaret Keating, dating from 1914 to 1938.

Edward Keating (1875-1965), born in Kansas City, was a newspaper editor of the Rocky Mountain News and city auditor in Denver, Colorado. In 1911, he became president of the State Board of Land Commissioners of Colorado and, in 1912, was elected U.S. Representative from Colorado. In Congress, he forced a congressional investigation of the great strike in the coal mines of Southern Colorado.
